Bound Volume Details

The Michael Landon Remembrance Project

I made a commitment to project participants to send one bound volume containing the messages and other features of the remembrance project posted on this website to Michael's family and I am pleased to report that I have fulfilled that commitment. The bound volume, or as we refer to it the ML Remembrance Book, was shipped to Michael's daughter on January 28, 2008 and was delivered by FedEx on Wednesday, January 30th. In the Spring of 2009, I went beyond my initial promise and sent additional books to Cindy Landon so that she and all of Michael's children would each have a book. A note expressing thanks and appreciation has been received.

And now for some particulars...Messages were received from people residing in a total of 32 U.S. states and 21 foreign countries (and there may have been more but over 40 people sent in messages without indicating a location). The ML Remembrance Book is 8 1/2" x 11" and was bound using the same method (perfect binding) typically used to bind paperback novels. The book consists of a full color wraparound cover and 136 b&w interior pages, which includes several picture collages.

Here are small pictures of the book's wraparound cover* and two of the collages (without, of course, the website address on them):

*This picture of the wraparound cover is before being trimmed in the binding process and therefore includes additional space on all sides (the 'bleed area'). Since many difficulties were encountered in creating this cover in a form acceptable to submit to the printer writing on the spine of the book was intentionally omitted. As novices to the whole book binding process, writing on a book spine required a level of precision that was beyond our capabilities.
