Melora Hardin
Mostly what I remember about Michael Landon was his easy nature. He could see into you as an actor. Even as a child I knew he was looking deeply into me without ever seeming invasive or inappropriate. He was a total gentleman and very warm to me. He had complete control over his sets without ever raising his voice or holding anyone emotionally hostage. He was just powerful from a centered, clear place that knew what he wanted and how he was going to go about getting it. He was a great leader who resonated to everyone. It put everyone at ease to know that he was in charge. His confidence in himself, in his actors and his crew, made for a very happy and calm workplace. He also had a playful little twinkle in his eye that made all the children feel that he was one of us and made the adults feel, I’m sure, that he was good fun to be around. As a director he was quiet unless he needed to say something and when he did it was right on the mark. I always felt seen by him; a great feeling to an actor of any age. He was full of experience and he was smart and sensitive which anchored his wisdom in reality not ego. I will always have fond memories of working with him and thankful, too, that he was responsible for introducing me to one of my very best friends even to this day, Mathew Labyorteaux, who played Albert on the show.
