Where does one begin to express one's feelings about Michael Landon? He found a way to reach so many, all over the world, by devoting himself, with his chosen career in the film industry, to help those in need of caring and tender love, for all ages!!
At my age (10 years+ Michael's senior), I can still see that adorable, young Adonis ‘flash’ onto the TV screen as "Little Joe Cartwright", with epee in hand. For me, he was the "Robin Hood" I adored in my younger days!!! You must know who I mean ~ Errol Flynn. NOW, however, EF, at this point is out of the picture, NEVER to return!! Michael Landon WAS, IS and WILL always be my ‘ideal’ of the human MALE!!!
As he grew from his adorable “Little Joe” image, leaving the Ponderosa behind, he was certainly on his way as he went ‘onward and upward’ to further adventures. Finally “Little Joe" merged into the epitome of masculinity. Now, by settling-down with his new name, Charles Ingalls, he brought his wife and three daughters to the small village of Walnut Grove in the mid-western State of Minnesota. Beginning a new life, he built the Little House on the Prairie, where his family would grow and multiply. This entirely ‘new story’ of this BEAUTIFUL MAN, Michael Landon, was a repeat of my own childhood; so reminiscent of my family's 27-acre summer place, back in the '30's and '40's, right down to ‘no modern conveniences’ (particularly the out-house - a 3 seater!!!) as my sister and I shared the same bed just as Mary and Laura Ingalls did. Incidentally, "Pa" put a window in the loft where Mary and Laura had their bedroom and Laura was so impressed as she told Mary: "We have a window, all our OWN." I'm sure Pa Ingalls' fatherly-image was a reflection of Michael, himself, as a father, in his own real-life-world, off-stage. Such genuine caring and tenderness Charles gave his family, all girls, until he adopted his only son. How ironic that the Cartwrights were all men, while the son, now known as Charles Ingalls, was most definitely partial to daughters. I just have to quote a line from a Bonanza episode, The Frenchman: "It is fate, KISMET."
To further his role as a humanitarian, Michael could see fit to become just another face in the crowd ~ apparently the "BOSS", himself, approved of "Jonathan", an ANGEL. Here again, one can add another smile to one's face when you learn that Mike gave this unassuming ANGEL the last name of SMITH!!! How original can one be?
Still planning to go further Michael was ready to go ‘Onward’, but the "BOSS" apparently needed him just for going ‘Upward’. If he was suffering, in any way, NOW, at least he would be safe and sound, once more. It was so VERY SAD for all of us left down here on Earth, particularly his young family!! I very often think of how much he must be missed and how they long to hear his voice, or feel his touch. I am a widow of almost 7 years now, and I know the longing for just hearing or feeling the closeness of a loved one who can never be replaced. (At the age of almost 82, I get VERY lonesome for "My hubby ~ My own Little Joe").
As a member of Bonanza forums, I have often mentioned how many attributes or mannerisms my hubby had in common with Michael. They both had a way of smiling and being so sweet and tender, especially to the ladies or children in their presence. They were so very similar!! So good to their loved ones!!!!!
To Michael's family, I think of you so often when I am enjoying each time I watch any of Michael's various portrayals of his beloved TV characters. He is one-of-a-kind!!!! He is a MASTER at bringing the tears to one's eyes ~ but we love every minute!!
Michael's memory is cherished forever and he holds a very special place in my heart. I spend a certain amount of time, each day, re-calling precious moments spent with my hubby, other family members I have lost, and dear friends, as well. Michael shares many favorite moments with me, believe me!!! I have a feeling, within my heart, that my dear hubby and Michael are with each other, along with Dan and Lorne, and oft-times are sharing my loving thoughts. I DO have dreams, quite often, which seem soooooo real!! AND that makes me think I must be ‘getting through’ to these favorite men in MY life!! My LOVING thoughts are always ‘theirs for the taking’!!!! Rest easy my dears ----------- ohhhhhhhhh, how you are missed!!!!!!
My thoughts about this beautiful man, Michael Landon, and the LEGACY he has left for so many, is just simple and to the point: To LOVE and be LOVED. He was such a loving human being and HEAVEN knows he was and will always be LOVED.
Michael Landon, you are a precious and cherished memory…NEVER to be forgotten!
