Michael Landon

I have been a fan of Michael's since I first saw him way back when I was a little girl of 6 and my love for him has never changed, even now that I am over 50. Every year I post up a tribute to him, on the Bonanza groups, which I am a member of, and I would like to share the one I have written, this year, with you.

MICHAEL AT 70

Today our boy would be seventy; I can’t believe that’s true.

Throughout our lives, he’s only ever been Little Joe, to me and you.

Well, maybe Charles Ingalls, or an angel doing good things,

But never an old man of seventy, with the trials that old age brings.

I can’t think of our boy with wrinkles, aching joints, and all the rest.

He was always so young and full of life, and brimming over with zest.

When I sit and watch him as Little Joe, he’s still my little boy.

And even though I’m older, seeing him young, fills me with joy.

Because it takes me back to when, I had the whole world at my feet.

There was so much to look forward to; in fact life, was very sweet.

But now, even if the world was there, I couldn’t bend down, to pick it up.

As my back would never let me, let’s face it, I’m no longer a pup.

But I’m not going to complain, as at least I am still here.

And Michael’s no longer with us, which makes me shed a tear.

Until I think of what he said, and I stop those tears from falling,

As I know he wouldn’t like them, and I can almost hear him calling.

He’d shout, ‘No tears are needed, I much preferred a laugh.

Even when Hoss dropped me in the trough, and I had an early bath.

Even when the Ingalls crops were failing, I found something to make us smile

And when on that Highway to Heaven, I laughed along every mile.’

So I raise my glass and say to Mike, Happy 70th Birthday to you

And I’m sure that Victor, Lorne and Dan will make it a good one, too

Miss you Michael

Little Joe forever
