I can't remember a time when Michael Landon wasn't a part of my life. I grew up watching him on Bonanza, enjoyed the family values he showed on Little House on the Prairie, and was inspired by the hope he depicted on Highway to Heaven. In between the series episodes, I watched him in TV movies and specials, and was never disappointed by his performances. He was truly a talented performer, a gifted writer, a sensitive director, and a producer who understood his audience. His gifts were as beautiful as his appearance.
I never knew Michael Landon personally, but nevertheless I feel he played a big part in my life. His shows always espoused honesty, integrity, respect, and courage. In his television world, good triumphed over evil when individuals stood up for what they knew was right. Consciously or unconsciously, I tried to take those values to heart and follow them. There have been times in my life when I wasn't sure what to do, and I'd flash back to a Bonanza or Little House episode in my thinking. Somehow the right path always became clearer to me after that.
Thank you, Michael, for giving laughter and tears as I watched your performances. Thank you for offering sound guidance in dealing with a complicated world. Thank you for more years of enjoyment than I care to count. My life is better because you were a part of it, and a bit emptier because you are no longer with us. You are missed, but always remembered.

On the occasion of what would have been Michael's 70th birthday, how wonderful to reflect on how he has touched so many lives in his short time on earth and continues to do so from his place in heaven. Through his 3 decades performing on television, and in all the years since his death, he has given me joy with his versatility of expression from the sweet-faced, cocky Little Joe to the caring, angelic Jonathan Smith. His remarkable gift as a writer is sorely missed in today's television, but I am grateful that his legacy continues to touch new fans as Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, Highway to Heaven, and his other works (when we're lucky enough to catch them) continue to be shown. Thank you Michael!
