Michael was one of the true gentlemen of the TV industry. On only one other set I worked on - Angela Lansbury's Murder She Wrote - have I ever been part of such a warm, happily working crew and cast. Everyone was paid, and treated, well. With dignity and consideration.
Lorne Greene was guest starring on the episode I was part of. Lorne was somewhat enfeebled, and had much difficulty with his lines. Michael, with great compassion and tenderness, thought nothing of stopping shooting regularly, putting his arms around Lorne's shoulders, and walking him outside for quiet encouragements, then resuming shooting in whatever small increments Lorne could manage. It was inspiring to see such care and respect for an artist still trying to do his best.
